Mission Statement

My personal mission statement...

My mission is to prove to the world that women's sports are important, and they deserve to be watched and heard by a global audience. We want to be heard, respected and watched. I want to be part of the movement that helps raise awareness for girls' and women's athletics around the world. We are women, hear us roar!

It has also been my lifelong dream to design sportswear and accessories for the female sports fan. I will be launching my online store in May 2009 which will feature my very own designs.

Sports Broadcaster

Play-by-play announcer for DI Women's Hockey, DII Women's Soccer & Softball

There were two things I was passionate about during my childhood: sports and sewing. I knew at a young age that I wanted to do one or the other when I grew up, but deciding which one I wanted to do was the hard part.

After graduating from Hill Murray High School in Maplewood, Minnesota, I attended the University of Minnesota. I decided to take a shot at the fashion design industry. I completed several introductory classes in design, but never really felt like I fit in to the "fashion crowd." So I changed my mind and started taking classes focused on journalism. I thought that the fashion industry would be easier to enter because it was a more "female" focused business, unlike the sports industry of the 1990s which was predomanantly run by men.

Needless to say, I ended up frustrated with the size of my classes and the lack of personal guidance at the U of M, and went back to working in retail. Two years later I found myself in front of an advisor at Brown Institute in Minneapolis (now known as Brown College). It was there that I finally realized I could follow my dream of being a sports broadcaster. I got my first job working in radio at WMIN in Hudson, Wisconsin as the board operator for Nebraska Cornhusker football every Saturday afternoon and a Bowl game that season.

Despite not finishing my college degree, I continued to move up in the broadcast industry. I did everything from running the control board to producing a network sports show to doing sideline reporting for football to hosting game broadcasts. It wasn't until I landed in Bemidji, Minnesota that I realized how important getting my college degree would be to my future in this competitive industry. And what was even better was that Bemidji State University was a smaller university of around 5,000 students rather than the 65,000 I encountered in the Twin Cities.

With over ten years of experience in radio and television broadcasting already on my resume, I decided it would be in my best interest to concentrate on something other than mass communications. I returned to college at Bemidji State University in January 2007 and will be graduating with my Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management in May 2009.

Now I am ready to take on the world!

I will be launching my online boutique in May 2009, the same month I will graduate from Bemidji State University with my degree in Sport Management.

What girl wouldn't want to start up her own line of sports wear? I've found it frustrating over my lifetime how every college or professional sports team's attire is fitted for the male population. Sure the major athletic divisions have "tried" to appease their female fans by making jerseys and hats available in "pink." Come on guys! Just because we're girls, doesn't mean it has to be pink!

My idea of sportswear for women is that we can wear our team's colors proudly, and most importantly by not wearing it in some other color like pink, or any other pastel color. I've talked to a lot of my female friends, who happen to be well versed on their favorite teams, and the concensus is that they don't want their jerseys in pink, but rather want them in the colors their team wears, but in a form fitting style. Not many women look good in an oversized XL hockey jersey, unless their actually on the ice playing.

My goal is to come up with designs for jerseys, shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc. that are created specifically with the female sports fan in mind.

I've got many ideas, just need to find someone I can present those ideas to.
